Terrible birthday present for an atheist        Rating:

I received this from my father for my 29th birthday. It's very nice as far as bibles go, but I'm an atheist. I won't ever take this thing out of the box, and I can't even return it because it's personalized. I know it's the thought that counts, and that's precisely why I'm upset about this. I'm firmly anti-Christian; I think it's silly and don't understand how anyone can take it seriously. My father knows this. He spent $75 on a birthday present he knew I didn't want and would probably even be offended by. It's like giving a Jew a personalized copy of the Koran. I'd have been happier with just a card.

So, all you Christians who think these are great gift ideas: sure, they are, if the giftee is a Christian. It's a nice bible, to be sure. But if you have an atheist or nonreligious loved one, don't waste your money. You're not going to save his soul (which he doesn't even believe needs saving, since he doesn't have one). At best he'll just throw it in a drawer and forget about it, and at worst he'll be offended by it. Just spend the $75 on an Amazon gift card.

Zondervan NIV Study Bible, Compact; Updated Edition        Rating:

This was a very nice looking Bible. I was very pleased with it's appearance. I suppose it was my own fault but the word "Compact" did not really register. I should have realized that the print was going to be very small. It would be nice if the description on the size of the type was a little clearer. Thanks.

I bought the large print study Bible for two of my sons - print is easily read, so your eyes don't tire, study notes at the bottom of each page are very insightful - would definitely recommend this to all that thirst for The Word.
