Product Description

His father is a white trapper, his mother an Athabascan Indian who walks a thousand miles in winter to reunite with her family. Thus, Jimmy Huntington learns early how to survive on the land. Huntington is only seven when his mother dies, and he must care for his younger siblings. A courageous and inspiring man, Huntington hunts wolves, fights bears, survives close calls too numerous to mention, and becomes a championship sled-dog racer.

Exceptionally amazing        Rating:

This book is an amazing account of a half native half white Alaskan, living life in the early part of the 20th century in the wilds of Alaska. An amazing adventure from start to finish!

Should be a movie        Rating:

"My mother walked a 1000 miles across Alaska." Jimmy Huntington's narrative on his life starts with his mothers incredible story and continues with his own lifetime of Alaskan adventures. From killing three bears with an axe and a .22 rifle, to winning the North American Sled Dog competition; Jimmy's life ranks with the best adventure stories I've read...and his is all true. When I lived in Alaska Jimmy was considered a real hero. A friend I gave this book to called me the next day and said she was angry because she couldn't stop reading it and stayed up until 4AM. I have purchased and given away 6 copies.

Great true life adventure        Rating:

I haven't enjoyed reading a book so much in a long time. It's loaded with adventure and beautifully written... an American classic. This true account of the struggle to survive and the grit and determination of a Native American family in the wilds of the Alaskan Yukon is an inspiration to all of us.On the Edge of Nowhere
