Great book        Rating:

This is an excellent book.A much different view of wolves than what is popular today.A view backed up by 40 years of wilderness living.Frank Glaser's life in the wilderness is not possible today.A good read.

Alaska's Wolf Man        Rating:

I was thoroughly captivated by the hardships that the man not only survived but was able to adapt to in rugged and harsh enviroment. His knowledge of all the wildlife was total and complete. First time I ever heard of anyone shooting a grizzly with a .220 Swift and living to tell the tale. Also was the first time I had ever heard that wolves will kill just for the fun of it but he has the knowledge to back it up.

Accurate Depiction of Frontier Life in Alaska        Rating:

I spent my childhood in the Cantwell area in the 70's (before Park's Highway was a paved road). My family (mom, dad, and three siblings) lived in a small cabin near the Nenana River on the south side of the Alaskan Range. We ran trap lines, hunted, fished and gardened. My dad eventually worked on the crew that built bridges on the Parks Highway. I very much enjoyed reading about the experiences noted by Frank Glaser. Having lived the same life, this book presents an accurate account of wildlife behaviors and the unusual and entraining characters that live and travel through Alaska.

Compelling        Rating:

Alaska's Wolf Man story-telling recount of true events, along with facts about the wildlife that I have yet to see in any other book makes this a standout of my Alaska reading.

Most compelling are the recounts about wolves (mostly in the last half of the book), half-wolf sled dogs, bears, moose and caribou habits (how many people or books tell you that during the latter part of mating season, the male bull will lick the female until she urinates and he'll drink gallons of it. The bull meat will taste so "gamey" that not even sled dogs will touch it).

I recommend this book for those interested in wolves and other wildlife, or Alaska.

The best of the best        Rating:

I have lived in Alaska for 10 years and can't believe I just heard about this book. I bought it yesterday and have not been able to put it down since I opened it.

Not only is it an excellent read but I am learning a lot of tips about wilderness survival. It is about the best adventure book I have ever read.
