Product Description

What do the latest financial thinking and ancient spiritual teachings reveal to us about financial freedom? Top financial advisor Brent Kessel insists financial success and security is "not about the money." Rather, it's about what's inside us—first understanding your emotional relationship to money, and only then taking action. It's Not About the Money expertly and compassionately guides you along the path to financial security and true peace of mind.

Kessel, founder of two top wealth-management firms, has the inside scoop on the higher wisdom of personal finances, and he wants to share it with you. Through extensive experience as a financial advisor and spiritual seeker, Kessel has discovered that people need to understand their core financial story in order to make meaningful changes. Some of us are savers or caretakers, says Kessel, while others are pleasure seekers and spend like Hollywood stars; some people are idealists who place greater value on creativity or compassion than on financial security; some of us innocently believe our finances will work out without effort; and others obsess about building empires with lasting value. It's Not About the Money will help you identify your money type, providing information and resources as well as exercises and meditations to inspire a fresh approach to your relationship with money that will change your life.

One of my favorite personal finance books!        Rating:

I've read a lot of personal finance books. A LOT. Most of them. I'm going to be completely honest - when I got this book, I based my decision entirely on the cover. It was Tiffany blue with white writing and had a cute origami bird on the cover made from money.

I did not realize that this particular book would make a greater impact on me than any other personal finance book that I've read. This isn't a standard book on how to get out of debt. This book is about reaching that core story about who you are within your relationship to money.

This book heavily involves Buddhist philosophy. However, it does touch on many other religions. It was so comforting to me to find a book that reconciles Buddhist thinking with a desire to accumulate wealth, which seems contradictory. But now I know it is all about the middle way.

When I completed this book, I felt a bit lighter. I learned so much. I think everyone I know could benefit from reading it. The archetypes are well illustrated and, more importantly, it doesn't criticize if you are a pleasure seeker - there is positive in every archetype and there are suggestions about which other archetypes would benefit. There are also investment and financial plans for each archetype.

I highly recommend this book. I'm really glad I picked it because of it's beautiful cover. Little did I know what was waiting for me inside.

And for my Losties - there is a nice section on a man named Richard Alpert who is now known as Ram Dass. Very interesting.

Amazing Book !!        Rating:

Brent Kessel is an amazing financial planner with a unique insight to the real issues that effect us when it comes to money. This book serves as an excellent guide of what and how to deal with money and financial issues that come up.

Fabulous!        Rating:

This is an absolutely life changing book. I bought it as a gift for many of my friends believing it will be a sustainable gift. Really unlike other books on money.

Great Thinking: Never Mind the Types        Rating:

Kessel's book It's Not About the Money: Unlock Your Money Type to Achieve Spiritual and Financial Abundance is terrific guide to helping people understand the role money plays in their lives and to take control of it. He gives a number of thought provoking exercises particularly to help understand one's values about money.

I found his Financial Archetypes less interesting and not that helpful. Its very difficult to categorize people in their attitudes towards money. Nevertheless they are of some use.

Overall I recommend this book highly, it will give the reader a way to understand their values about money, where these values come from and if they are currently serving the individual's higher purpose.

real wealth but not in dollars        Rating:

a perfect holiday gift choice. money matters to everyone and these lessons are best to be taught sooner than later. informative chapters covering several areas of finance. the 8 money personality types show you why you spend & save the way you do. after reading this book you won't look at money the same way. the insights will allow you to be more comfortable around money issues & make better decisions. a start towards financial freedom & away from debt. should be required reading for every high school student.
